At SKCDC, we collaborate with many community partners to create a supportive environment for children and address the challenges they face. Throughout 2025, we will highlight these collaborations in a series called “It Takes a Village.”

We’re excited to Begin this initiative with the AMAZING Foster Grandparent Program! https://www.skcdc.org/foster-grandparent-program/

SKCDC Head Start is thrilled to welcome Foster Grandparent volunteers into our early childhood classrooms. These volunteers provide a caring presence and serve as positive role models for our children. Their involvement shows our children that there are adults in their community who genuinely care about them. Whether they’re reading a story, sharing a meal, or enjoying time on the playground, our Foster Grandparents are an incredible addition to our classroom teams!

Here’s what one of our Foster Grandparents, lovingly known as “Grammy Mary,” had to say about her experience:

“Becoming a Foster Grandparent changed my life in so many positive ways. I found myself with a reason to get up in the mornings and discovered a new sense of purpose. Walking into ‘Turtle Pond,’ I was greeted by children calling my name with excitement and others running up to give me hugs. What a way to start the day! Spending one-on-one time with the children gave me the chance to encourage them. One little boy wanted me to write cards for him, but I told him I’d help if he did the work. When he finally did, his big grin said it all, and it inspired him to keep trying. I love seeing their excitement when they learn something new, and I’m grateful to be part of such a wonderful team.”
